CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY. - A new music camp emerged at Campbellsville University on June 7-9 when 22 high school students were welcomed to CU's first annual Chamber Music Camp.
“From outset, the goal was to give students a unique summer camp experience, focusing on the individual, and giving them a personalized and interactive learning experience,” Corey Bonds, assistant director of bands, said.

The Chamber Music Camp gave students the opportunity to interact with several faculty, alumni and current students while participating in a wide variety of musical enrichment. Some of the types of musical enrichment include: master classes, clinics on performance skills, and lessons in musical theory, music history, class piano, and jazz improvisation. While participating in these classes, students were also given a composition project they were to perform at a final concert.
“The benefits of performing in these types of ensembles is several layers deep,” Bonds said. “Most importantly, the students develop a confidence in performance independence while still maintaining a dependence in ensemble structure. In other words, they had to learn their part because no one else had it,” Bonds said.
The students represented a wide span of Kentucky cities including: Albany, Bardstown, Bowling Green, Campbellsville, Edmonton, Gamaliel, Glasgow, Lebanon, Litchfield, Paducah, Scottsville, Somerset, Sonora, Springfield, Williamstown, and Willisburg.
Members of the camp presented their culminating concert on Tuesday, June 9 in Gheens Recital hall in the Gosser Fine Arts Center on the campus of Campbellsville University.
Dr. Bill Budai, associate professor of piano studies, also helped coordinate the event.
